Abeokuta, Ogun , the State capital is the destination for many lovers of literature today as the disciples and friends of the Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, will gather there to mark his 81st birthday. He was 81 on Monday.
Anchoring the programme, as usual, is Alhaji Teju Kareem’s Z-Mirage, on the platform of the International Cultural Exchange Programme.
According to Kareem, there will be performances by the Ogun State Cultural Troupe, Jimi Solanke, and Yinka Ola-Williams at the Amphi Theatre in the Soyinka’s Ijegba Forest home.
Among other programmes, Soyinka will interact with 81 pupils that are the finalists in the annual essay competition, now synonymous with his birthday celebrations.
While two seasoned storytellers, Theodora Ulerie (from Trinidad and Tobago) and Noma Shodipo are also having workshops with the pupils, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and his wife will also host the participants.
