-Rescue officials Say Four Dead, Six Hospitalized
An eye witness who was at the scene when Bristow Helicopter crashed into the Lagoon on Third Mainland Bridge has detailed a graphic picture of how the Chopper went down after it struggled in the air for some minutes.
"On my way back home I and my colleagues saw the Chopper,struggling to land about four times and then it sank,infact the hazard light was on and we saw it live, it was around 3pm. People were even watching from Oworo bridge, it was my colleague who called our attention to it, we saw the hazard light was on"
Earlier today six people were rescued from the debris of an helicopter crash in Lagos, according to Rasak Fadipe, the head of NEMA, he confirmed that four dead bodies have so far been recovered from the scene of the accident. "So far, we’ve learnt that 12 people were aboard the helicopter," Mr. Fadipe said. The helicopter, belonging to Bristol Helicopters and with registration number 5NBGD, was coming from Escravos in Delta State and exploded before crashing behind the King’s palace at Oworonsoki, Lagos, emergency rescue officials said.
The Lagos State Police Command’s spokeswoman, DSP Patricia Amadin, also confirmed the incident to NAN. According to her, the commercial helicopter plunged into the Lagoon, behind Oworosoki Police station, immediately it took off. Amadin said the helicopter was carrying 12 passengers, adding that as at press time (5:19pm), six persons were rescued, while the police and other rescue teams were still searching for two other persons in the waters.
