Weststar returns with FIAT Tipo

Italian auto, Fiat, is back to the Nigerian auto market with the new Fiat Tipo, courtesy of Weststar Associates Limited, Authorised General Distributors of Mercedes-Benz products and FIAT in Nigeria.
FIAT, is known for their passion to manufacture cars that represent a progressive automotive future.
This, Weststar said the decision to bring back FIAT to Nigeria followed many months of planning, research and business meetings after listening to its customers.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony last Thursday in Lagos, Mirko Plath, CEO/Managing Director, Weststar Associates said Nigerians want a car they can express themselves in which is what the FIAT Tipo is about.
“Today we have started an evolutionary journey by taking one more step in our business, we have listened to our customers and we have, after many months of planning, research and business meetings, finally completed this extraordinary task to make a dream come true especially in the Nigerian market, by bringing FIAT back home, a product that thoroughly satisfies and excites despite the present economic circumstances and the challenging times,” Plath said.
“The Fiat brand slogan, driven by passion, inspired us to deliver more for less,” he said.
In October 2014, FCA was listed on the New York and Milan stock exchange thus declaring the merger between Chrysler Group and FIAT automobile companies. FIAT’s alliance with Chrysler® Group now provides a more competitive advantage with higher access to new technologies and advanced engineering solutions.
FIAT cars are known for its versatility, large interior space and compact exterior dimensions. These winning features are found on the new Tipo, a practical, functional model which in perfect FIAT tradition ensures the best equipment-to-price ratio, this being the real value of any industrial product.
The name- Tipo sported on the badge is a celebrated designation that Fiat has been used many times during it’s over one century of history. The Tipo is one of the models to carry the coveted name of which nearly two million were made from 1988 to 1995 and which was first awarded “Car of the Year” in 1989.
Plath believes that despite the challenging economy which has resulted in the drop of imported new cars in the country, the new FIAT Tipo will attract good sales because according to him, the premium brand will give Nigerians the opportunity to themselves while on steering.
“All cars are good, but you need a car that you will express yourself in, which is what the FIAT Tipo represents.
“The brand boast of standard features that include entertainment, which is not in any other cars,” Plath said.
on his part, Stravros Diamantidas, General Manager, Weststar, Abuja branch, said the car will put their competitors on the edge.
“Every taste of the Fiat Tipo covered, either as a family car or casual car. The u-shape tail design gives it a muscle while driving,” Stravros said.
The new FIAT Tipo was definitely born to be a sedan. Its features are enhanced by Italian design, inside and out, which makes the car unique in its segment.
The FIAT Tipo is 4.54 meters long, 1.79 meters wide and 1.49 meters high. The 2.64-meter wheelbase emphasizes its excellent internal comfort.
It has a rigid, lightweight body chassis. This results in lower weight, first-class handling dynamics and impressive strength in the event of an impact.
Under the hood is a1.6V E.torQ Petrol (gasoline) engine with109hp that yields an economical fuel consumption of 15.9km/l.
It also comes with a five-speed transmission and a Front-wheel drive. Thus, the weight of the engine and transmission is directly over the driven wheels to reduce weight and production cost, improve fuel economy and deliver better traction. The Tipo comes with McPherson independent suspension up front and interconnected wheels with lateral dynamic control at the rear.
Thus, the suspension system is lightweight, efficient and reliable while the Frequency Dependent shock absorbers filter out stresses more effectively to reduce body roll when cornering.
Equipped with some of the most advanced safety systems, the Fiat Tipo offers simplicity and peace f mind to its passengers. Some key safety features include six airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Hill Holder, anti-lock brakes (ABS) complete with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), fog light with cornering function and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) among others.
