INSIDE DETAILS HOW GOVT’S FAILURE TO HONOR BUSINESS AGREEMENT GOT BILLIONAIRE TUNDE AYENI INTO MAJOR TROUBLE

It wouldn’t be hyperbolic to say that Dr. Tunde Ayeni has a patriot’s heart and the soul of a revolutionary. This is to assert the fidelity and stoic perseverance of the genius within the footholds of power and a troubled oil sector.
Yes, despite his exit from Skye Bank, where he served as chairman, the cascade of blows against the successful lawyer turned business magnate has neither softened nor ceased.
At the moment, Ayeni is battling tooth and nail to save his most audacious investment, Ntel, from some powerful forces decidedly hell-bent on taking over the telecoms company and probably messing him up.
A consortium run by Ayeni, NATCOM Telecommunications, bought over the moribund national telecoms company, NITEL, and its mobile subsidiary, MTEL, from the Federal Government in 2014 and transformed it to Ntel.Within a year of operations, Ntel has emerged a force to be reckoned with in the very competitive telecommunications sector, introducing the most sophisticated 4G service to Nigerians, while delivering superfast call connect times, crystal clear voice-over-LTE and high-speed Internet access. No sooner had Ntel introduced these innovative services that its problems began.
In the last one week, Ayeni has come under a barrage of media onslaughts, bordering on his stewardship at Skye Bank Plc., essentially due to the multi-billion naira loan he secured to finance the revival of NITEL.
Prior to the take-off of the Global System of Mobile Communications, GSM, in Nigeria in 2001, the services of the national telecommunications carrier had been spasmodic at best. In spite of successive administration’s efforts to revive it, nothing worked, thus consigning NITEL to the dustbin or so, until NATCOM came through in 2014.
According to a retired Director in the old Ministry of Communications Technology which oversaw the bid for NITEL, “It is quite sad how in Nigeria we dig our own grave and yet cry that we are not making progress. I just saw an online medium publish some grave allegations about Tunde Ayeni and his stewardship in Skye Bank.“While I do agree that officeholders should be accountable for their actions, I wonder what the real intent of the government or whoever is behind that story is. Having petitioned the Presidency, why hastily bring the same allegations to the media?” He wondered whether the loan was unilaterally obtained in such a big bank or it went through due process.
“Now, who approved the loan? If the bank did not find the business proposal worthwhile, why approve the loan in the first place? Could these alleged financial losses running into almost N300bn as stated by the bank possibly have been accumulated in just over two years of Ayeni’s chairmanship because he only became chairman in 2013?
How much was the total deposits base of the bank during the over two years that one chairman would incur such expenses in so short a time? Why single Ayeni out of the three chairmen when Alhaji Musiliu Smith and Mrs (Moronkeji) Onasanya are still alive?”
Tunde and his partners borrowed money from the bank to buy Yola Electricity Distribution Company, but unfortunately for them, because of terrorist attacks, they declared a force majeure. Following the declaration of a force majeure by Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing Company, the core investor in the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, the Federal Government took over the beleaguered power firm.Consequently, the Federal Ministry of Power took over the management and control of the electricity distribution company since 2015. The Federal Government promised to pay back Integrated Energy Distribution Company $180 million since 2015, an agreement that the government has not fulfilled to date. The government has taken Yola Disco from the core investor and has yet to refund (the investor) the money used to acquire the asset.
The Yola Disco is running even as you read, and the Federal Government is even planning to sell it. Ayeni and his partners are paying back the huge loan to the bank with a huge interest. Meanwhile, it’s the same government that owes Integrated Energy Distribution Company such a humongous amount of money that is perpetrating cynical witch-hunts against them. Isn’t it ridiculous?
Obviously, the source also said, “The intent of this is either to conduct a media trial and convict the person (given Nigerians’ general phobia of not wanting to be in the press), or to pre-empt the President and blackmail him to act in a particular manner. Or better still, it may be to achieve a sinister motive of discrediting the man in the eyes of potential partners so as to make him a commercial outcast and ultimately overrun his business. Otherwise, how do you explain this action? However, that electricity supply in Nigeria is still a spasmodic flourish, a yo-yo at best, is fairly and squarely the missteps and myopia of former President Goodluck Jonathan. This is the unanimous assertion of the investors behind Distribution Companies, DISCOs, who are the providers of last mile services in the electricity supply value chain.
Alas, at the time of the acquisition of the unbundled companies, core investors paid $2.238 billion which they sourced at N150 to the dollar. Two years later, dollar oscillated between N370 and N400, an investment-debilitating increase. This has plunged many of the investors into harrowing webs of debts.
Many have lost their assets and savings in the process. Life could not be more difficult for genuine, patriotic Nigerians who saw an opportunity to bail their fellow countrymen out of the cauldron of darkness but got frustrated by the system.
Now, their migraine does not end there; back then, the Federal Government promised to invest about $7 billion to revamp the old, obsolete networks; maintenance of network equipment; investment in trained manpower and customer data; increase meter penetration; and resolve health, safety and environmental issues. All these have remained typical Nigerian politicians’ promises, empty and vainglorious. To compound the problems of the investors since the conclusion of the privatisation process, they are now faced with huge operational challenges, clearly visible in their operations and service delivery; lack of sufficient energy supply from the national grid; and a near absence of investments due to poor revenues, inadequate tariffs and external funding constraints.
According to the Executive Director, Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors, the umbrella body for the DISCOs, Sunday Oduntan, “In that agreement, there is a list of what the Federal Government was going to do and what we as operators, the DISCOs, GENCOs and investors are to do. But unfortunately, the government reneged on all its obligations and promises.
“And those things that the government offered to do were essentially preconditions meaning ‘if I do this, you will do that. So, if I don’t do this, you will not be able to do that.’ An example is the issue of tariffs. From day one, the term they used was cost-reflective tariff. The simple meaning of that is what can be called the appropriate pricing of products. Tariff is about price and electricity is the product.”Captain Idahosa Okunbo, a businessman, philantropist and investor extraordinaire, said, “The Federal Government has not met most of the conditions under which we should operate as a distribution company, and the best thing that can happen today to us or to me is for the government to take back the assets and pay us back our money.
“We are paying the loan we took to acquire the Yola Disco; we are also paying interest on the Yola investment and the Yola Disco has already been handed over to the government three years ago. Yet, we, as investors, have not been refunded. Is that how to do business? Is that how to encourage investors to do business in Nigeria?” Continuing, the billionaire oil magnate and philanthropist, said, “We brought business out of those entities. In fact, those assets should have been sold for $1 while we invest the money we paid to the Federal Government in optimising the asset.
“How can the government have sold these assets to Nigerians in dollars when the assets are in naira?”
Literally emitting fire, Okunbo also said, “I am not a thief; I have been servicing debts from my hard-earned money, servicing debts of a business that is not working. We carry members of staff that we are constantly paying salaries to.”
Capt. Okunbo, a former pilot who retired from the aviation industry in 1988 when he was barely 30, Okunbor, also a popular philanthropist, states, “In my three decades in business spanning engineering and technology, energy, integrated service in the petroleum sector, maritime, security, agriculture and others, integrity has been my guiding principle and a core value with which I have been able to earn trust and confidence of companies and corporations of global repute.I have never stood before any administrative, judicial or legislative panels to answer any questions related to any shady deal. I have conducted my businesses with utmost openness, honesty and integrity. I am not oblivious of the fact that not a few people look up to me as a role model; the least I can do is to exhibit exemplary leadership quality to this group of young Nigerians, many of whom interact with me on a regular basis.”
Interestingly, however, there are so many people that borrowed huge money from the banks and stash it in foreign banks while some keep theirs in shallow grave. And they still walk freely in Nigeria.
With the present situation of things, it is short of reaching the conclusion that our government is set up such that it cripples local businesses and discourage local investors while offering foreigners unbelievable waivers and opportunities that are denied Nigerians who genuinely want to move the country forward.

How Benny Peters Wife, Ella is Enjoying Life Abroad

Yes, Ella Peters is the deity behind the eminence of billionaire businessman behind Aiteo Group, Benny Peters. Without Ella, Benny would be no extraordinary man. There is no gainsaying Ella dwarfs too many of her peers in womanliness, valour and character.
Benny was made for Ella. To Ella, it probably feels like she had him ordered and delivered to her, to be worshipped and revered. On this note, it may be said that Benny is Ella’s idol. And this is where it gets interesting; Benny also considers Ella a boon from God. The Aiteo head honcho treasures Ella like a priceless heirloom – this explains his predilection not to flaunt her like a sapphire-studded wristwatch or button hole bouquet to the world.Through fortunate seasons and his most trying spell, Ella stood unflinchingly by Benny, urging him to seek solace in God’s ceaseless mercies. Their love was neither a performance nor a jailhouse thus Benny and his heartthrob felt no pressure to break out of a literal or symbolic prison of lust and unrequited love
She is a darling and a champion no doubt; unlike several women whose major preoccupation is unnecessary worry and fear of losing their husbands to other women, Ella lives rest assured that her husband is hers forever. Hence rather than squander precious time mooting plots and counter plots against presumed rivals, she devotes herself to loving her man and nourishing her marriage with unwavering devotion, loyalty and care.
Based in Atlanta, USA, Ella hides her vanity beneath a veneer of humility…but at odd moments—in the exciting company of her bosom friends, in the folds of a wispy day-dream or the middle of a friendly and feel-good banter, she betrays her lust for reverence and acclaim. For instance, she hardly engages in conversations with her friends without making reference to her husband’s corporate status. She shouldn’t be envied after all; having braved through trying times with her better half, it’s only fair that she enjoys the spoils of perseverance with him as the going gets rosier. Ella lives in America with their wonderful children. They have everything money can buy at their disposal. You name it! Benny spoils them silly.
However, under former President Goodluck Jonathan, Benny was one of those dictating the pace in the oil sector. No wonder the accomplished businessman was rated by Forbes, the influential American business magazine, as one of Nigeria’s wealthiest men.

Senator Godswill Akpabio blows hot: ‘I’ll walk in the rain with my people’ …Assures of APC’s victory in 2019

The ever unrepentant and blunt former Governor of Akwa Ibom state, and now Senator, Godswill Akpabio, is in his element again.
Speaking audaciously last Monday when he led a delegation of leaders and stakeholders in the state to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa, Senator Godswill Akpabio expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari will record massive victory in Akwa Ibom State in the 2019 presidential election. Akpabio, alongside Senator Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), said the feelers he and his like-minds are getting from all nooks and crannies of the state are very indicative of a landslide victory in his state and by extension the entire nation come 2019 general elections. He was so emphatic that Akwa Ibom State would be the first state to fall for the All Progressives Congress in 2019. In another development, Senator Akpabio spoke extempore on the developments in his state when political stakeholders from Itu Local Government Area paid him a solidarity visit in Ukana.Akpabio exploded,
‘You want me to be covered by an umbrella when my people are in the rain? Some people are attempting to mock me because of my entry into APC today. Some call it the movement of Baal because I walked in the rain, but there were women in the rain, there were children in the rain, there were politicians in the rain. They defied the rain and stayed in the rain and what were they doing, supporting me, supporting the in-coming government of Akwa Ibom state and supporting President Muhammadu Buhari. So you want me to be a leader that the umbrella will cover when my people are in the rain? I want to stay with you come rain, come sunshine. Leadership is all about feeling the pain of the people. You travel on the same road I travel, you enter the same pothole that I enter, and if I cannot as your leader fill that pothole it means that I don't care for your well-being. You use the same hospital that I use and if I cannot equip that hospital it means that I don't give a damn even about my own health. Some people don't have roads to their houses and yet they are Governors in some states of the federation. I don't want to name names but I know people that the road to their place is not up to 20km they refused to do it with the excuse that  the votes they got from their hometown was not much. And therefore they deny themselves the road to even drive home after they have left office. So, let me be that leader that feels your pains when you are in pain. Let me be that leader that smiles with you when you are smiling, let me be that leader that rejoices with you when you are rejoicing. And let me be that leader that provides for you when you are in need. Above all, let me provide my shoulders for you to lean on whenever you have the need. I have nothing against the government of Akwa Ibom State. I have nothing against those who are paid to abuse me. I am in sympathy with them, because I believe strongly that a government that is looking for a second term must campaign on the basis of its performance not on the basis of denigration of his predecessor. Young boys that did NYSC in my office whom I made Personal Assistants will call Godswill Akpabio and President Muhammadu Buhari drowning men, a former head of state of Nigeria, a General in the Army and an elected president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Just because you are looking for a second term, a young man who says he's an aide to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State will call the president of your country a drowning person. Because we are in a democracy, there is freedom of association, freedom of speech, freedom to insult, freedom to denigrate, freedom to besmirch, freedom to smear. I have only one answer to the insults and that answer is what you have provided today. This is the answer to their insults.  We are the ones who make things to happen.  Democracy means that power is given to the people. You didn't come as a Member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to join the APC. You came as a movement; it is what they call movement of the people. I suspected that this was what was going to happen in this state. On the day that I joined the APC, in the presence of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. 39 senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, many Ministers and many people from across 59 countries of the world who watches it live, I told them that I was not decamping, that I had moved, I had moved, I had moved. The reason I said so was because I knew it was going to be a movement. When we finished the celebration by the Christian youths in the Uyo Township Stadium, I could not get to my house because the youths of Uyo senatorial district lined up behind me and moved along with me. At a point I couldn't help I had to get down from the car, join them in the rain and we walked for over one kilometer. And we entered into one primary school to go and sing and dance together. And I asked them to tell me exactly what they want and they said, Sir, we want the elections to be held in October.  And I said I don't know how I will tell the president to bring the elections forward. They said that they want to vote for APC. They said Sir, we want to the broom to sweep out unemployment, we want to use the broom to sweep out the potholes that have returned to the state, above all to sweep out lies, deceit, blackmail, abuses and insults.’

Wema Bank New MD, Ademola Adebisi, In Trouble As The Bank Crumble To Huge Debt Portfolio

Banking without bankruptcy is like Christianity without hell. This incontestable truth becomes clearer to Ademola Adebise, the new Managing Director of Wema Bank, by the minute. The MD has finally burned through his euphoric spells of fantasy to chance on cold, brutal reality; Wema is in trouble.
The bank severally touted to be doing very well is actually in dire straits. Consequently, this has put the bank MD in a bind; for the first time in his life, he has finally gotten to understand that bankruptcy is a sacred state, a condition beyond conditions, as theologians might say, and attempts to investigate it are necessarily cumbersome and tiring, like spiritualism.
Wema Bank currently groans under the weight of huge debts portfolio by its A-list customers. The bank’s debtors, comprising Nigeria’s superrich, have failed to refund loans taken from the bank to the extent that some of the loans may have to be written off as bad debt. Consequently, Ademola, the erstwhile sinewy and athletically-built MD is losing sleep over the huge debts.
He has lost so much weight in the last couple of months, his eyes are sunken and his cheeks have lost their rosy glow. Although many of his business associates and subordinates initially passed his weight loss off as a deliberate effort by the MD to keep fit, now they know better. He is troubled by the huge debt portfolio racked up his bank’s A-list customers. Some of the debts however, may never be repaid again, so we heard.
The Wema MD is severely troubled particularly at this period when the bank’s shareholders have resolved to turn the heat on him. The issue of huge debt portfolio and cumbersome debt recovery process had always bedeviled Wema like an albatross even during the tenure of the bank’s former MD, Segun Oloketuyi, but the situation has severely worsened over the years and according to sources within the bank, Ademola never understood the extent of the rot until he assumed position as MD of the bank some months ago.

Kwara PDP False Alarm Evidence of Saraki's Phobia For Lukman Mustapha

We are aware of a conjectured write up and false alarm by the Kwara state chapter of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, under the supreme leadership of Senate President Bukola Saraki, claiming 'some staff of a privately owned radio station owned by a gubernatorial aspirant have been engaging themselves in house to house collection of PVCs'. Understanding clearly that Mallam Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha is the only APC gubernatorial aspirant that owns a radio station makes it sacrosanct for us to properly situate things and debunk the unfound tales of the deceptive party and it's confused leaders.

The latest outburst by the Kwara PDP over purported house to house collection of PVCs by staff of a radio station is thus a continuation of their "pull him down strategies' in motion against Mal. Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha, the Chairman Board of Trustees of Sobi FM, opposition stalwart and leading gubernatorial aspirant, which is dead on arrival like the previous ones. We wish to emphatically say that Sobi 101.9 FM was conceptualized by Mal. Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha to cause a social rebirth and would do nothing inimical to a mandate it uphold.

Sobi FM is a radio station and a business entity separate from its principal's political ambition and its staff have no business whatsoever collecting PVCs, we dare the Kwara PDP to provide evidence of their claims, because to us, the outburst is a fowl cry to retaliate the exposure of their political and governmental misdoings by the radio station. They may continue trying hard to malign Mal. Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha and his radio station, Sobi FM. But that would neither deter Mal. Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha from maintaining his antagonistic posture against political infidelity and misgovernance under PDP's leadership that have left Kwara state on the backtrack among comity of state, nor will it stop Sobi FM from airing it's pro-people contents.

It is a popular fact that the present crop of politicians at the helm of affair in Kwara state are serial liars that will always swim in the mud to gain unwarranted sympathy and unmerited public confidence and one of their major strategy recently, is orchestrating propaganda and spreading falsehood against dreaded political enemies like Mal.Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha whom have posed serious threat to the continuity of their misgovernance and gross maladministration of Kwara state. We aren't unaware of how they have mischievously deployed their social media machenaries to peddle propagandas and label the person of Mal Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha and Sobi FM, since the radio station exposed their election malpractices during the 2017 local government elections and promoting social consciousness and political awareness which is threatening to sustenance of the political dynasty that has only subjected Kwarans to sufferings and abject poverty.

Since Mal. Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha unveil his intention to run for the gubernatorial seat in Kwara state, which is largely welcomed with supports from Kwara across social and economic divides, the status quo and their co travellers have remained in confusion and desperately trying to stop him with cheap blackmails and even demolition of his house. They've also made ceaseless attempts through written petitions to the NBC, high wired networking to stall Sobi FM operations and even trying to use state machineries to gauge Sobi FM's pro-masses contents which have always end in futility.

They may continue to wail and raise false alarms, an unarguable fact remains that the bark of a dog can never stop a flying aeroplane.
