News has it that the Burma Road Branch, Apapa of Diamond Bank Plc, has been a subject of discussion recently, as there was an alleged spate of grand conspiracy between some staff and some unscrupulous people to wrest money from customers, who just withdrew money from the financial institution. Everyone should know that big money moves in and out of the Apapa axis, because of its proximity to the port vis-a-viz clearing and forwarding activities, which involve a great volume of liquid cash. We gathered that when such huge monies are collected by customers from this Diamond Bank branch, some inside sources within the bank allegedly inform these robbers, notably on motor bikes, Okada, via mobile phones, to accost these customers, take the money and bolt away. A particular case is one customer, by name Bukky, who recently withdrew N3million from this Burma Rd. Branch and headed towards Warehouse Road in the same Apapa area; as he was alighting from the bike, he was halted by some guys, who also came on an Okada, at a popular plaza, caught up with him, snatched the N3million from him and bolted. How they got to know that he had such huge amount on him remains unresolved. Prior to this particular issue, Urban Life was informed that there was another customer of this same branch, who collected N200,000 and left the bank, and as he was about to enter an Etisalat office off Warehouse Road, Apapa, he was shot to death by some armed guys who were on Okada, and sped away with the money. It’s been said that many cases like that, have emanated from this Burma Road branch of Diamond Bank in Apapa and the management has not deemed it fit to find a solution to the menace that is gradually turning the bank to ghost town
