Maikashuwa bows out as N’Assembly clerk today

The Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikashuwa, will proceed on his terminal leave, preparatory to his retirement from service on Friday (today).
The dust over the choice of his successor, has also settled as he had asked Mr. Mohammed Sani-Omolori, to take over from him as Acting CNA.
The National Assembly Service Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Adamu Fika, had appointed Sani-Omolori as the Acting Clerk, but the Chairman of the National Assembly/Senate President Bukola Saraki asked Fika to appoint the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr. Bennedict Efeturi, as the new CNA.
But Maikasuwa, on Thursday, less than 24 hours to the commencement of his terminal leave, formally named Sani-Omolori as the Acting CNA.
Maikashuwa, in a circular obtained by our correspondent in Abuja, said, “Sani-Omolori will step into the office as Acting Clerk to the National Assembly from May 14, 2016.”
The outgoing CNA, according to the circular, marked NASS/CNA/46/VoI.1/97, dated May 12, 2016, indicated that he would be proceeding on his terminal leave from May 14, 2016, to August 14, 2016.”
The circular partly read, “During my absence, the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed A. Sani-Omolori, will perform my duties.”
The development has, therefore, ended weeks of disagreement between Saraki and NASC Executive Chairman over the appointment of an Acting Clerk of the National Assembly.
Fika had appointed Sani-Omolori as the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly.
The Senate President, in a letter, written by his Chief of Staff, however, directed Fika to withdraw Sani-Omolori’s appointment, pointing that the decision was unilateral and without consultation with other commissioners of the National Assembly Service Commission.
The National Assembly Service Commission had, in its letter dated April 20, 2016, appointed Sani-Omolori as the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly.
Saraki had yet to issue any  counter directive as of the time of filing this report.
