We recovered 40 new SUVs from former Perm sec – FG

The Federal Government said on Thursday that it has recovered 40 brand new SUV cars from a former permanent secretary.
It said that the unnamed former permanent secretary appropriated the vehicle to himself after leaving office.
It, therefore, said it would be wrong for it to be accused of fighting corruption without any clear strategy.
Rather, it said it was being guided by a well-articulated strategy in its fight against corruption in the country.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed,  stated this in a statement.
Mohammed said, “The strategy has proven so effective and that it has led to, among others, the recovery of 40 brand new SUVs and other vehicles from one former
Permanent Secretary who single-handedly appropriated the vehicles to himself when he left office.”
He said the federal government was not just fixated on prosecution alone but was also taking preventive measures to make corruption unattractive.
Mohammed listed the strict enforcement of the Treasury Singles Account, which he said had largely reduced the diversion of government funds into various secret accounts, and the constant fishing out of ghost workers in the public service, which he said  many states were now adopting, as some of the preventive measures against corruption.
He, however, said some other measures had been perfected to strengthen the anti-corruption fight, adding that the measures included the establishment of the Presidential Committee on Asset Recovery and the Asset Tracing Committee; the setting up of an Asset Register, and the Whistle Blower Policy.
The minister also announced the plan by the government – working through the Code of Conduct Bureau – to commence, starting in 2017, a trial run of electronic asset declaration to facilitate compliance and also to search and retrieve data on the assets of public officers
In addition, he said, the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption was also working with relevant MDAs, especially the National Bureau of Statistics, to improve data collection on corruption indicators generally.
He said, ”Once perfected, the data will be shared with government periodically, if possible as regularly as government receives data on inflation and unemployment trends, to indicate trends in corruption and influence government measures to correct the situation before it gets out of hand as we have now.”
Giving more explanation on the Presidential Committee on Asset Recovery, he said
that the committee meets regularly to take reports from key law enforcement agencies on government’s anti-corruption effort, share information and intelligence, review the challenges being faced in the anti-corruption efforts generally and give directives on the way forward.

The governor-elect, also announced the formation of a 158-member Strategic Development and Policy Implementation Committee, headed by Mr Agboola Ajayi.
He said it was to “develop a detailed sectoral policy and programme document which would be called `A Blueprint to Progress in Ondo State 2017 – 2021′.
“Its document shall guide government towards effective service delivery and a purposeful tenure.
“The underlining focus of its assignment is also to guide government to deliver on the popular five cardinal programmes which formed the very kernel of our campaign promises.”
Another committee, with 78 members, chaired by Alhaji Jamiu Ekungba, was also constituted by Akeredolu to plan the inauguration of the incoming administration.
He said that the incoming government must plan well to ease out of current challenges.
He identified some of the challenges to include the collapse of industries, unpaid salaries and pension, and high level.

FG releases report on the demise of female NYSC corps member

The national dailies in recent days have been awash with stories on the assumed circumstances surrounding the death of Oladepo Ifedolapo Rachael, a corps member of the 2016 Batch ‘B’ in Kano on 29th November, 2016. On the strength of the wide publicity given to the allegation of negligence on the part of the NYSC, (which did not tally with the preliminary reports from Kano State NYSC Secretariat), I set up an independent investigation committee from the NYSC Headquarters headed by the Director Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Mrs.Victoria B. Okakwu, on Friday 2nd December, 2016.
The Committee submitted its report and from its findings, we have a very clear picture of what happened. Miss Oladepo, who was a graduate of Transport Management from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, registered at the Orientation Camp on Friday, 25th November, 2016. On 27th November at 5:00 pm, the deceased first appeared at the Camp clinic with complaints of headache and fever which she said she had been experiencing for two days.
On examination, the Doctors on duty noticed rashes on her legs which she claimed started appearing as a result of her use of a second-hand knicker she bought without first washing it. The Doctors at the Camp clinic then treated her for the fever and malaria and released her to go back to the hostel.
At about 3:00 am on 28th November, the deceased was brought back to the Camp clinic by corps members who were her friends, with further complaints of vomiting and general body pains. After further examination, the Doctors on night duty noticed that the rashes on her legs had increased which the deceased still dismissed as reaction to usage of a second-hand knicker. She was thereafter admitted at the Camp clinic and treated with prescription drugs to soothe her body pains as she had already been treated for malaria.
At 8:00am on 28th November, 2016, one of the Doctors on duty at the Clinic examined the deceased and inquired about any history of drug or food allergy which could have resulted in the rashes. The deceased still explained that it was a reaction to the use of second-hand clothes. The Doctor thereafter administered treatment for the rashes and associated itching.
The Doctor proceeded to invite all her other colleagues who then converged by 9:00 am to further examine the deceased. They noticed that the fever and body pains had subsided but the rashes on her trunk and lower limbs were still very obvious. They concluded that in view of the treatment she had already taken and her vital body signs normal, she should be placed on observation with iv fluid (normal saline). And that if the condition did not improve, the deceased should be taken to the hospital for a more authoritative investigation and treatment.
As the plans were being made, the deceased called her doctor at home who then requested to speak with the doctors at the camp clinic. Her home doctor further affirmed to the CMD at the camp clinic on the phone that the line of treatment given was good and the drugs administered were normal. It was at this point the deceased complained to her home doctor that she had not urinated for some time. This was what the doctors at the Clinic overheard which hastened the deceased’s referral to Gwarzo General Hospital by 4:00 pm.
On that trip, the deceased was accompanied by two doctors from the camp clinic including the CMD and the Nurse on duty who happened to have been seconded by the State Government from the same General Hospital to the camp clinic. They arrived at the hospital about 30 minutes later and met the doctor on duty. After examination, the doctor immediately ordered for full blood count, kidney function test, hepatitis and HIV. From the result of the investigation, the doctor concluded that the deceased had kidney infection probably due to untreated urinary tract infection (UTI).
Since her potassium level was high, the deceased required immediate dialysis which was only available at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano, about 2 hours drive away. To survive the grueling journey, the doctor decided to stabilize her overnight.
The investigation showed that the deceased responded well until about 2:00 am on 29 November when her condition worsened, and her body began to show noticeable signs of fluid retention. She was thereafter placed on oxygen to aid her breathing as the doctors battled to stabilize her for the long journey to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. She finally died at about 4:00am on the 29th November, 2016.
FINDINGS
In all of the above, some conclusions could be highlighted without any fear of contradiction.
(i) From the evening of 27th November, 2016 up to the early hours of 29th, the corps member was promptly attended to. The allegation of negligence on the part of NYSC is therefore unfounded.
(ii) The Orientation Camp clinic where the corps member was first treated has a total of 31 qualified and registered Doctors, 20 Pharmacists and 11 Nurses. There are no student Doctors as all the Doctors are fully certified by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
(iii) The Camp clinic in Kano Orientation Camp, as in all the Camp clinics nationwide, runs 24-hour service, hence she received attention at 3:00 am on the 28th of November when her friends brought her in from the hostel.
(iiii) The Camp clinic in Kano was well stocked with essential drugs for a non-surgical hospital.
(v) There was no delay in referring the deceased to the secondary hospital when the Camp clinic Doctors found that her case was beyond what could be managed in the Camp clinic.
(vi) Apart from being the closest secondary hospital to the Camp, Gwarzo General Hospital is not a village hospital as insinuated in the Press. It is a standard General Hospital established in 1970 as a Zonal Referral Hospital with surgical theatres. It currently has eleven (11) Doctors and is reputed to be one of the busiest in the whole of Kano State.
(vii) We have also established that at no time was the deceased left unattended at the Gwarzo General Hospital as the Nurse who accompanied her to the hospital is a staff of the Hospital.
(viii) Like many corps members do upon arrival at the Camp, it is clear that the deceased had an ailment which she did not disclose. From the Doctors’ report, the corps member died of renal sepsis occasioned by infection. Even to the untrained, Kidney infections do not develop and degenerate to the level of mortality in three days (i.e 27th to 29th November, 2016).
(ix) The close friends of the deceasedwho were by her side all through at the Camp, have also attested to the fact of prompt attendance at the clinic by the Doctors at the Camp.
(x) The deceased was neither forced nor harassed to take part in any parade at the time of her ailment. There was no usual parade rehearsal since the Swearing-in Ceremony had not taken place at the time she fell sick.
CONCLUSION
The purpose of this investigation and report is not to justify the death of our corps member but to establish the facts surrounding her death, especially against the backdrop of the unfounded insinuations that have been peddled in the Press. All these facts could be verified right from the Orientation Camp Clinic entries, the medical personnel and the records at the Gwarzo General Hospital.
Indeed, the death of a single corps member in the course of service is one death too many. Beyond the colossal loss to the family of the deceased, the loss of a corps member to the NYSC family and the nation at large is unquantifiable. At this prime of her life, Miss Oladepo was expected to make her greatest contribution to the development of Kano State and Nigeria in general. She has definitely left a vacuum that may never be filled.
As we mourn her and other corps members who have departed this world, we shall continue to honour her memory by working harder with the rest of the corps members to achieve the time-honoured objectives of the NYSC.
May the soul of Oladepo Ifedolapo Rachael and the souls of all other deceased corps members rest in peace Amen.

Ambode releases Lake rice

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and his Kebbi State counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu on Wednesday released the much anticipated Lagos-Kebbi Rice christened ‘LAKE RICE’, saying the partnership which culminated into the inauguration was not only designed to ensure food security but showcase the ability of Nigeria to become a producing nation.
Speaking at the launching ceremony held at Lagos House in Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the development was a great and historic moment for both states and Nigeria, as the rice would not only be sold at highly reduced price, compared to what obtains in the market, but is also very fresh and safe for consumption.
“Today is an historic day for Lagos and Kebbi States. In March 2016, we signed an MOU with an understanding that we, being proudly Nigeria, we want to come out with what is made in Nigeria and what is good in Nigeria. We took all that President Muhammadu Buhari said that we need to grow our food and we decided that we will prove a point and that is what today is all about.
“LAKE RICE is of good quality. The major difference between LAKE RICE and the ones imported is that the imported has a minimum storage of five to six years storage life span, but LAKE RICE is fresh,” the Governor said.
He said the partnership would in the nearest future lead to an
Giving a breakdown of the prices, Governor Ambode said that while the 50kg will sell for N12, 000, 25kg would go for N6, 000 and 10kg for N2, 500, adding that for now, an individual would only be allowed to purchase a bag to enable it go round.
He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting the collaboration between Lagos and Kebbi, just as he disclosed that the Federal Government has donated two rice mills to the State Government to increase production of rice next year.
expansion of production of the rice, saying that Lagos has the largest consumption market.

Breaking: Ibori to return home January

Residents of Asaba, Delta State, who are currently celebrating the release of their former governor, James Ibori, may have to wait till well after January 2017 before they can physically embrace their son.
According to reports, on Tuesday, a London High court had ruled that the Home Office could no longer hold the ex-governor who had served six-and-a-half-years of his 13-year jail term, as the sentence ran concurrently.
Ibori was subsequently released on Wednesday morning.
The British Home Office had made an unsuccessful attempt to prevent his release, claiming that Ibori’s assets confiscation hearing was inconclusive.
However, on Wednesday, the presiding Judge, Mrs. Justice May, who heard an emergency appeal filed by Ibori to enforce his rights, rejected the Home Office’s request to continue to detain him.
In her ruling, Justice May ordered his immediate release without conditions attached.
It was however gathered that the ex-governor has to report to the Police once a week, hence his inability to return to Nigeria immediately.
He is reported to be currently restricted to his St. John’s Wood residence.
May ordered both parties to return to court in January.
Meanwhile, Ibori has appealed his conviction for money laundering and graft.

Asaba rocks as Ibori regained freedom

Ancient Asaba town and its environs were literally paralysed on Wednesday in jubilation, following news of the release of ex-Governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori.
The news of his release from London prison where he had served 10-year jail term for money laundering and other offences filtered into Asaba and its environs in the early hours.
Various Quarters’ residents, especially Asaba youths, rolled out their drums to celebrate the man they described as “Odidigborigbo.”
The youths sang Asaba-Ibo songs along Nnebisi Road, Summit Junction, Okpanam Road and Anwai Road where they danced freely to drumbeats, causing serious traffic gridlock.
Security agents and the popular Ogbeogonogo Market Women were not left out in the jubilation.
The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Peter Mrakpor, who spoke to journalists in Asaba, described Ibori’s release as a welcome development; adding that his contributions to nation building cannot be overemphasised.
“I’m particularly grateful and hope that the Federal Government would grant him state pardon,” Egodike said.
One of the market women, Mrs. Esther Nnamdi who spoke to our correspondent said: “We are grateful to God for his mercies. Ibori is a man and a great man, we are very happy for him”.
In Government House and offices, civil servants and government appointees told stories of how Ibori developed the state.
Palmer Osakwe, a civil servant, told our reporter, “Ibori is a great man; he developed the state. Indeed, we want him pardoned by the Federal Government.”
A lawyer in Asaba, Barr. Lawrence Egodike, also appealed to Federal Government to grant the former governor state pardon, adding that the ex-governor contributed immensely to the development of the state.

Hyundai Motor scores top rank in Auto Bild's Quality Report 2016

Ranked first for the third time in seven years: Hyundai Motor has been awarded first place in Auto Bild's Quality Report 2016 and has secured one of the most coveted accolades in the automotive industry. Following its top rankings in 2010 and 2011, Hyundai Motor has succeeded against its competitors in Germany once again. The in-depth evaluation of quality and reliability, including customer feedback, a customer survey and extensive testing, is conducted annually by Germany's best-selling motoring magazine.

The overall result is extremely positive for Hyundai Motor. The brand recorded a total score of 2.14 on the scale of five. "That was a successful performance. Well done, Hyundai!" was the verdict of the testing team. Hyundai Motor achieved the first place for the third time in seven years, moving up two places from its third-place ranking last year. The magazine was particularly impressed by the endurance testing of the Hyundai models. A Hyundai i30 underwent testing over 100,000 kilometres, scoring a "1", which made it the best-ever of Auto Bild’s endurance-tested vehicle. Judging by the interim findings of endurance tests currently in progress, the Hyundai i30 is certainly not an exception. Auto Bild comments: "Hyundai can be justly proud of the improvements in quality achieved over the past few years. The extent to which the cars' feelgood factor has improved is currently underscored by the i10 and the Tucson, both of which are popular fleet vehicles and have each run up 30,000 kilometres with no sign of a fault."

"Quality is a key element in Hyundai's brand strategy, as embodied in our industry-leading peace-of-mind 5 Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty. The first rank in Auto Bild's Quality Report is a powerful endorsement of Hyundai Motor's experience and technological development, underscoring our ambition to become the number one Asian brand in Europe by 2020," says Thomas Schmid, Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe.Auto Bild has been assessing the long-term quality and dependability of the leading automotive brands in its Quality Report since 2001. One core element is the customers’ satisfaction with their respective vehicles. The magazine evaluates all recalls and rectifications which proved necessary in the course of the year and also factors in the results of the report issued by the Technical Inspection Authority (TÜV) responsible for the statutory general inspection of vehicles. The overall score includes the findings of the 100,000-kilometre endurance tests from Auto Bild's own database and also the results of the workshop tests. Another source of information is the volume of complaints from readers, which shows the degree to which motorists are satisfied with their purchases and serves as a clear indication of the recurring defects. Customer satisfaction is analysed by a survey undertaken among 8,575 car owners by the Forsa opinion research institute. Finally, Auto Bild evaluates the duration and content of the warranties and guarantees offered to buyers of new vehicles.

RSC enforces tanker drivers’ ban from night journeys

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) yesterday reiterated its ban on petroleum tanker drivers from night journeys today.
FRSC Corps Marshal Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi said in Lagos that any truck found contravening the order would be impounded.
According to him, the ban is to promote safe petroleum haulage.
“No tanker should be seen on the road at night. We need to find solutions to incessant crashes of tankers on the road.
“Beneficial as petroleum sector is to the nation, safe haulage remains FRSC concern.
“There is a problem and we have solutions to them, no more night journeys for petroleum products, from Monday, December 19, enough is enough.
“The effects of crashes are quite unquantifiable on human life, environment and economy,” Oyeyemi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The FRSC boss noted that a crash involving a tanker laden with petrol will lose N50 million; the cost of its contents and vehicle.
Oyeyemi said many night crashes  had caused severe damage to people and the community.
He said besides the lives lost, number of houses, shops, farm and other investment were engulfed in flames.
The corps marshal added that such incident portrayed the nation in bad light.
Oyeyemi said the dimension and scale of devastation caused by these crashes were huge on the society.
According to him, there are laws and policies to tackle the problem, if every stakeholder complied.
He said the National Road Traffic Regulations 2013, Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme and Safe-to Load-Projects were part of the efforts to tackle the problem.
Oyeyemi advised tanker drivers to stop deliberate violation, neglect and non-compliance to basic road traffic regulation.
He appealed to them to stop intimidating other road users, especially, those who drive light weight vehicles by exposing them to risk.
The FRSC boss said the mandatory Speed Limiting Device installation was a good initiative at reducing speed-related crashes.
“It is also essential to install trackers in vehicles on the fleet to obtain real time information about drivers and driving behaviour, which are paramount for successful operations.’’
“Also drivers involved in delivery and distribution of petroleum products in the country must be properly trained and certified.”

Marseille to make Mikel highest-paid player

With McCourt ready to spend in January – and Mikel yet to play a single game for Chelsea since the beginning of the season – reports in France on Sunday claimed Marseille were ready to sign the 29-year-old.
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr also  confirmed Mikel, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season,  was in talks with Marseille.
struggling  French Ligue 1 side Marseille  may have succeeded in convincing  out-of-favour Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi to shun big-money move  to the Chinese Super League to help revive the club.
Former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, who  bought Marseille in October, had promised to invest heavily in the January transfer window to help manager Rudi Garcia  build a team  that could be European champions.
Les Phoceens were ready to rescue Mikel  from  his Chelsea nightmare in the summer  but the player’s  reported £3.4m-a-year  salary  reportedly  aborted  the  move. “I saw him in London. He  is in advanced discussions with OM. Marseille is a serious option for him,” the German told Europe 1.
Chinese moneybags Shanghai SIPG  reportedly offered   Mikel £170,000 per week to move to Asia but Europe 1 believes the 2013 Africa Cup  of Nations winner will move to Stade Velodrome next month as  he will be a key player at the project at Marseille.
Garcia   has said  he will only sign top players in January  and believes Mikel will  bring a wealth of experience playing at the top level to help the side.
Former Swansea forward Bafetimbi Gomis is currently Les Phoceens’ highest-paid player at €420,000 per month, according to L’Equipe. But reports say Marseille are ready to significantly improve on Mikel’s reported €350,000-a-month salary  at Chelsea to lure him to France.
Chelsea’s Italian manager Antonio Conte has stuck with the team  who chalked up  their 11th  match winning streak in the Premier League following their 1-0 defeat of Crystal Palace Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Mikel, who represented Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil,  has  won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and Europa League since he joined Chelsea from Norwegian club Lyn Oslo  in 2006.

Speaking on her performance, Tiwa Savage enthused, “Personally, I have been looking forward to honouring King Sunny Ade and when this chance came, I grabbed it. Long before I dreamt of pursuing a music career, King Sunny Ade has paved the way for us especially on the international stage. On a personal note, I still remember how he cancelled other requests to perform at my wedding ceremony and I will never forget that rare act of graciousness”
Another major highlight of the event will be the auction of one of King Sunny Ade’s famous guitar masterfully painted by award-winning artiste, Victor Ehikhamenor. According to Terfa Tilley-Gyado, Director Communication, Temple Management, the master-piece is a collector’s item and has been receiving anonymous bids. The section will be moderated by United Auction House.
An ecstatic Ehikhamenor said, “When you are given the opportunity to add a line to the history of a legend, you’d better ask God to take your hand and guide your senses. I’ve loved King Sunny Ade’s music for the longest time and his rhythm is one of the best companions in my studio when working.
He added, “it was a pleasure creating on this guitar for his 70th birthday concert coming up this December. I just heard him say on TV “I have many guitars, but this is my favourite. I call it my baby.” Now Bellagio, Italy just got warmer for me this winter morning.
On a radio appearance, King Sunny Ade has promised his fans one of the biggest gifts. “This is one of my biggest nights ever and I promise to give my audience something to remember for a long time to come.”

I don't have a very special person in my life-Chika Ike

Chika Ike has honed her craft, developed her skills, and is today one of Nigeria’s leading actresses. A United Nations Ambassador for Peace, Chika is also a two-time Africa Movie Academy Award nominee. In 2012, she won the Best Actress award at the Young Achievers Award and officially launched the Chika Ike Foundation that same year. Standing at 5ft 11, the actress who is a graduate of Human Kinetics and Health Education from the University of Lagos, Akoka, shares her success story with Adetutu Audu.
THE release of your yearly calendar usually gets mixed reactions. Were you at any time bothered by the negative comments?
My yearly calendar is a tradition I started to usher in the New Year. Honestly, the mixed feelings from my past calendar didn’t really bother me because I totally love every bit and I did them at certain stages in my life. Every year comes with a new concept.
What inspired your philanthropic activities, especially your foundation?
I grew up in a neighbourhood where people could not afford the basic necessities of life. I saw my mother helping them when they needed help. I saw a lot of kids being exposed to violence, child abuse, peer pressure. So I learnt from my mother’s generosity to the kids and her gestures towards caring for others. I was close to them and I could feel their pain. Since then, I told myself, ‘if I’m going to set up a foundation, it has to be one that has to do with kids.’ That is my passion. It focuses on children on the streets and I love education. I call my charity project Educate a Child because I think educating a child is one of the greatest gifts you can give him or her. I started my foundation in 2012 on Children’s Day. I threw a party for about 3000 children and we gave them school bags, lunch boxes and notebooks. What really touched my heart was the way they were so happy. We have done some other giveaways in Enugu, Asaba, and in the north. It is an African foundation, not just Nigeria.
What was growing up like?
Growing up was fun. My parents are disciplinarians. My mum is an evangelist and my father is a very strict man. When I told him I wanted to be an actress, he didn’t like it. In those days, it was difficult to convince parents unlike now that mothers even call me to help their daughters get into acting. I grew up in a large compound where I had a lot of kids to play with.
You are already a brand. What is your staying power?
I can only attribute my success to God because, wiwithout Him, I’m a nobody. I’m also a sucker for hard work. I believe that in whatever you do, you have got to put in your best in it.
In a highly competitive industry with multi-talented actors and actresses, it is not easy. But I give God the glory; I’m a very spiritual person. Without God, I can’t really do anything. I grew up under the influence of my parents who inculcated the values of discipline, hard work and tolerance in their children.
What is the secret of your success in recent times when most other actresses are complaining of non-availability of jobs?

As I always say, I give all the glory to God; it is not by my power. It is the grace of God in my life and my movies. My hard work has paid off at the end of the day. People see the movies that I have done. Of course if you are not good, nobody will call you for jobs. It is the combination of hard work and the grace of God in my life. I don’t attach too much to material things.hat frightening experience have you had in the course of your acting career?
Basically, every job has its own hazards. Acting also has its own challenges too. I have had a lot of experiences. As an actress, you have to be at different locations. I shot a film recently that I was in the forest for seven days. You know the sight of reptiles and animals can be very frightening.
There could be scorpions, monkeys and other dangerous animals hidden in the bush but as an actress, you’ve got to put that behind you and do the job. I just finished a movie recently where I had to pose with a live python. It was the most frightening role I have ever played in recent times. Carrying a python that can turn against you at any moment can be very frightening.
It was frightening; very scary. It took me a while before I could carry it. People were like telling me not to be scared. I was like running away but they kept telling me, ‘Chika, No! No, it won’t attack you.’ Later, I agreed to carry it with one hand but the director insisted I must hang it around my neck. I screamed and screamed, but I finally did it.

Three years ago, your marriage crashed, do you think getting married at a young age was a disadvantage or had anything to do with the way it ended?

I think it has to do with so many reasons; one of them might be being young. Some people get married that young and have been able to make their marriages work. But if you’re young, you’re young.
There are some things you’ve not experienced. You might not be able to stay calm when you’re supposed to stay calm, understand when you’re supposed to understand or leave what you’re supposed to leave.
I think it has to do with age and so many other things like compatibility and not being true to yourself in the marriage. Everybody has a limit. There are some things in marriage that you might not be able to stand. Some people’s limit might not be my limit; my limit might be somebody’s starting point.
It is being rumoured that you are set to give marriage another trial, how true is this?
Marriage is a beautiful institution. I will never talk down on marriage because it’s something I still look forward to. It’s what every woman hopes for. Though I’m focused on my career right now, I do have a very special person in my life.
Looking back into your life, would you say you regret any of your actions?
I don’t really like looking back at life in such a way because I see everything you do in life as a learning process. I am not somebody that would not try and later start skulking and wishing it had never happened. Of course, I will feel bad, but I don’t allow that to weigh me down. I just have to move on and take it as one of the lessons in life. That way, it makes you stronger.

What lessons has life has taught you?

Life has taught me one thing; to be focused amidst all issues. I have learnt to keep moving and get myself above situations. Whether you like or not, there must be haters. Everybody can’t like you. If you are loved by all, then you should be very careful and start asking yourself if you are doing the right thing. It’s normal. It has taught me that life is full of ups and downs. It has also taught me to be patient.
How do you juggle between your business and acting?

It is really crazy. Today I am in Abuja, tomorrow I am in Lagos. Being an entrepreneur is what I love so much.
Describe your style I will say it’s simple, classy and chic!
What has been your biggest challenge?Life itself comes with challenges, so I just look at my challenges as a launch pad to step forward. Basically, having to wake up every morning and meeting workloads is enough challenge. So that alone is a challenge for me and having to joggle all those with my daily life, it’s huge, but all the same I take them as a stepping stone to greater things.

Gov escapes death as 200 die in Akwa Ibom church collapse

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, narrowly escaped death on Saturday as the building of Reigners’ Bible Church Int’l Inc, along Uyo Village Road, Uyo, the state capital, collapsed during service.
The incident left about 200 worshippers dead. Sources said it took the efforts of the governor’s security officers to whisk him away to safety. He was said to have sustained a minor injury.
We  learnt that the governor was in the church attending the ordination of the church’s Presiding Pastor, Bishop Elect Akan Weeks, when the building gave way few minutes before offering period. One of the aides, who rescued the governor, was said to have died at a nearby hospital where he was rushed to.
A security officer, who did not want to be named, said many dignitaries who accompanied the governor to the church also died.
Our correspondent gathered that the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Etekamba Umoren, also shattered his head in the incident. He was said to have been taken to an undisclosed hospital in the state.
We learnt that the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ekerette Udoh, also sustained serious injury.
It was gathered that construction works on a section where the ordination held were rushed because of Saturday’s event. The church has an estimated 10,000-seater capacity. Two cranes belonging to construction giant, Julius Berger, were used to clear the debris.
A clash was averted between the police and some residents as the latter tried to calm frayed nerves.
The state Commissioner for Works, Ephraim Inyang, refused to speak with journalists when he was approached. He ordered them to leave the place.
Mrs. Yenime Ekpo, who is a mother to one of the victims, Tony Brown, 46 with six children, said they were worshiping in the church when the building collapsed.
She stated that Brown was trapped in the rubble for many hours along with others before she was rescued.
Saying she was unsure of her son’s survival, Ekpo noted that they were not members of the church but only went to witness the ordination.
Also, a student of the University of Uyo, Department of Communication Arts, Uduak Effiong, said she lost three of her course mates to the incident.
She stated that when the building collapsed, a pillar fell upon a woman and tore her body.
She said, “I saw over 100 dead bodies. These were the ones close to me. From my estimation, more than 300 people might have died as people came from other churches in all parts of the state, including government-sponsored praised singers with uniforms to attend the programme. For some of us that escaped, we only did by the special grace of God.”
Another student of the University of Uyo, Jennifer Thomas, told our correspondent that one of her friends, Blessing Linus, was trapped in the debris.
It was learnt that the iron used in holding the roofing sheet was twice heavier than the block used for the building. Security operatives cordoned the area and denied journalists access.
Some members of the church seized the identity card of our correspondent and his computer tablet, saying he was a traitor as he tried to take pictures.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Murtala Mani, who said he could not ascertain the number of those dead or those trapped in the building, expressed sadness over the development.
He said, ‘‘I am sorry about the entire situation.’’
The Chief Medical Director of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Prof. Etete Peters, said of the 50 cases treated in the treatment, only one person died.
He said about 200 persons were brought to the hospital dead, adding that the hospital had never prepared for such an emergency.
He said, “We only lost one person in the hospital except those that were brought dead. In circumstances like this, we have been overwhelmed. We need help from government. Many victims are in private hospitals and mortuaries scattered all over Uyo metropolis; we can’t really tell how many people have died so far. We have over 200 persons in the mortuaries. We do not have space as people are still being brought in.’’
“We have done our best to revive some victims. Right now, we have over 50 cases we are attending to. This is the first time we are witnessing such an incident.’’
At St. Athanasius Hospital Limited, a nurse told our correspondent that one person was brought to the hospital dead but the relatives were asked to take the corpse away.
In its reaction, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria said it shared in the pain of the leadership and members of the church.
In a statement by its state Chairman, Dr. Sylvanus Ukafia, the association urged all Pentecostal churches in the state and in Nigeria to hold special prayers for the church on Sunday (today).
It added, “All churches should take special offerings for the medical assistance of all those injured and send same to the Reigners’ Bible Church. Church members who can are also urged to donate blood, where necessary, to those in the hospital and make other donations as may be required in the course of the treatment of those injured.’’n its reaction, the state government said a panel of enquiry would be constituted to ascertain the immediate and remote factors leading to the collapse of the church building with a view to forestall a reoccurrence.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary also noted that persons found to have compromised professional standards in the construction of the building would be sanctioned.
It added, ‘‘His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, was present at the church service during the incident and thereafter personally supervised rescue operations and evacuation of the injured to the hospital. The state government will undertake the medical treatment of the victims.’’
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday congratulated Emmanuel, and his family on their lucky escape from the  collapse of the building of the Reigners Bible Church, Uyo.
The President through a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, also conveyed to the governor and the people of the state, the deep sorrow of his family, the government and the entire people of Nigeria over the many deaths and injury recorded following the incident.

Mercedes-Benz Holds "Artificial Intelligence" Future Talk in Berlin

A major focus of the recently concluded Mercedes-Benz “Future Talk” was on the integration of artificial intelligence in the field of mobility and the interaction of humans and machines. The Future Talk is a dialogue format successfully established by Mercedes-Benz in 2013. By exchanging ideas with vanguards from various disciplines, the brand shares its visions and, as the inventor of the automobile, demonstrates its expertise in shaping a desirable, mobile future.
Speaking at the conference, Anke Kleinschmit, Head of Daimler Group Research stated, "Artificial intelligence is a key future topic for Mercedes-Benz, in-car and beyond, such as in the fields of mobility services or in development and production. Artificial intelligence has ceased to be science fiction and the progress in autonomous driving is an impressive proof of this. Likewise, AI already assists the development phase and production by providing intuitive access to global knowledge and knowhow – Always tailored to the individual needs, experiences and knowledge of the employee”.
In addition to the technical development and data security, a basic prerequisite for the sustained success of artificial intelligence in all application cases is the acceptance by society and consumers. "Artificial intelligence will only be successful on a long-term basis if we succeed in building up trust between man and machine", says futurologist Alexander Mankowsky. "We must define the division of tasks between human and artificial intelligence." A necessary prerequisite is also to be aware of what artificial intelligence is able to do and what it isn't. Because ultimately it always needs human participation and is based on human development. But it can support to make and examine decisions and therefore reach optimal results in a shorter space of time. The philosophy of Mercedes-Benz is - always to put human being at the center of all activities.
Mercedes-Benz works with numerous renowned research institutions in the field of artificial intelligence. For years, Daimler has been expanding its network to universities with innovative instruments such as research camps, tech centers, shared professorships and industry fellowships and start-up incubators and accelerators. In addition, the company will become a new member of the "MIT CSAIL Alliance Program" in the near future. The Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is one of the leading institutes worldwide in the field of IT and AI with 50 research groups and around 1000 members of staff.
"Mercedes-Benz is rigorously advancing its research and development in different directions so as to continue to play a pioneering role in the automotive industry in the development and application of artificial intelligence. The new partnership with MIT enables us to benefit even more directly from the research results of a leading world institute and to network with the best brains", Anke Kleinschmit emphasizes. "We aim to continue to play a leading role in shaping the future of mobility – with new mobility concepts, with cognitive cars and services which focus on people and make their daily lives easier and better."
CEO/MD of Weststar Associates Limited, sole authorized general distributors of Mercedes-Benz in Nigeria, Mirko Plath stated, “With each step, we are inching closer to full functional autonomous driving. I believe in the years to come, Nigeria would partake in this great initiative as we are blessed with a large population and a bigger percentage of tech-savvy individuals who can contribute substantially to the application of artificial intelligence in the automobile industry. We hold our customers with high esteem, that’s why we update our staff and technicians with regular trainings at our state-of-the-art training center to ensure we give the best services the Mercedes-Benz brand represents.”
Already in the 1960s, researchers expected a major breakthrough in the development and application of artificial intelligence, but the human world still proved too complex for digital computers. However, due to the triumph of the internet, the mass of data that has become available with this and the huge increase in computing power of today's computers, artificial intelligence is now entering people's lives and also offers big opportunities and potential for the future of the automobile.
