Yahoo Boys scam Lagos Speaker,Mudashiru Obasa of N9.2m

The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, of the Lagos State Police Command has arraigned three men before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, for allegedly defrauding the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, of N9.188 million.
Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa The three men, Frank Nwokobia, 27; Ezeoke Kanayochukwu, 25, and Godwin Essien, 28, were arraigned before Justice Chuka Obiozor, on a five-count charges of conspiracy, impersonation, identity theft and fraud.

The defendants, who were arrested at different locations in Delta State, according to the prosecutor, William Ologun, had sometimes in May hacked the Facebook account of the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, and retrieved several information which they used in withdrawing N9.188 million from his account. The prosecutor informed the court that the defendants were arrested in Delta State, after the complainant, Obasa, petitioned the Police that his Facebook account had been hacked and that N9.188 million had been withdrawn from his account by unknown individuals. The offences, according to the prosecutor, are contrary to Sections 27(1)(b) and 22(2)(b)(ii) of Cybercrimes Prohibition and Prevention Act, 2015.

‘Not guilty’ The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, after which their lawyer, Mr. Ali Abba, prayed the court to admit his clients bail in liberal terms. Ruling in the bail application, trial judge, Justice Obiozor, admitted the defendants to N5 million bail with one surety each. The judge ordered that the sureties, who must be recommended by the defendants’ lawyer, must be residents of Lagos State, with landed property and three year tax.

The judge also stated that the landed property title documents and tax must be verified by the court’s Deputy Chief Registrar. The court also ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Ikoyi facility of Nigerian Prison Service, pending the perfection of the bail conditions

Ex-Speaker, Dimeji Bankole Puts Properties On Sale

For unknown reasons, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole has placed ‘For Sale’ on some of his properties.

The politician who is believed to be warming up to succeed Governor Ibikunle Amosun as the Governor of Ogun State has placed his Abuja home located in the highbrow Asokoro and his hotel, Grand-Banks Link, Ota on sale.

Many hinged his decisions to ‘fling’ the properties on part of the move to sustain the bid to actualise his ambition.

An insider hinted ‘he needs money badly! You know he is tight-fisted, now he needs to prove himself and spend’.

The Hotel which many of the staffs thought will be given to a consultant to manage, witnessed properties valuers visiting the leisure centre since last week.

Checks however revealed unlike in the early days of this year, activities at his campaign offices across Ogun state has dwindled to halt, with some actually locked up.

Yorubas in Diaspora Wants Restructuring As Gani Adams Suggests Method

The Odua Progressive Union  Europe has called for the immediate restructuring of Nigeria along regional line to enhance the development of the country and rescue her from imminent crash, just as Otunba Gani Adams suggested the adoption of "mutual understanding and Compromise" to make her democracy workable.

In a communique issued by the socio cultural body  of  Yoruba natives in diaspora under the umbrella OPU, after its 3rd Europe Summit in Gothenburg, Sweden at the weekend, the group, among other decisions “supports the call for restructuring and devolution of power” even as it also “ globally seeks, wants and supports that Nigeria be structured via regional line”

 The body also called on Yorubas in diaspora to be evangelists of the Yoruba culture and ensure that the interest of the Yoruba nation is protected at all times.

It lauded the collaboration of its sister body, Odua People’s Congress(OPC) with the Nigerian Police to flush the dreaded Badoo cultist group out of Ikorodu in Lagos state.

The Europe Coordinator of Oodua Progressive Union, Chief Victor Adewale, while welcoming delegates to the 3rd historic Europe Summit of the Oodua Progressives said “It is an understatement that Nigeria is a failed nation, and there is urgent need for all stakeholders to come together and determine how the future should be tackled, the numerous issues confronting the nation should be addressed and all agitations from various interests should be promptly treated”

According to him, “the position of European Union of OPU is clear, we throw our weight behind those who clamor for regional integration so that Nigeria will be restructured via regional lines using the six geo political zones as a model. Devolution of power from the center to regions should also the song on our lips now”

Insisting that OPU has a role to play in reshaping the country, the OPU chief said the group is” mindful of what is expected of us despite the fact that we are outside the country, and for now we don't have voting rights, but our voice, position and recommendations can influence what is happening at home.”

OPU Convener and National Coordinator of the Odua People’s Congress (OPC) Otunba Gani Adams in his keynote address, expressed the pleasure to re-unite with his fellow natives in the Diaspora, and according to him, no doubt, OPU has provided a veritable platform for the Oodua descendants living far away from their home land to constantly interact on issues of common interest, especially as it affects the Yoruba race in particular and the country, Nigeria in general.

Speaking further, Otunba Adams said "It is a thing of joy for me to bear witness today, to the tremendous progress that OPU, as a body, has witnessed globally as it now operates effectively in 78 countries of the world.

He however observed that even as OPU Europe celebrate  and click glasses for its success  so far,” it is unfortunate that  we cannot do same over our country Nigeria where things have seriously retrogressed” he lamented.

The consolation, he said, is that, “the efforts of all of us here, if offered in unison, can salvage our country from imminent crash”

He thus canvassed for the adoption of “mutual understanding and Compromise” strategies used by the Swedish to accomplish the political and economic progress being witnessed in their democracy.

In his submission, when the Swedish Social Democratic Party came into power in 1932, its leaders introduced a new political decision-making process, which later became known as "the Swedish model." The party, he said, took a central role, but tried as far as possible to base its policy on mutual understanding and compromise.There is no gainsaying that Nigeria has what it takes to be a welfare state in its real sense with her natural endowments, but she must take a cue from Sweden and adopt the main ingredients of her body polity which absence in the Nigeria system have remained its albatross -mutual understanding and Compromise.

“It is my candid opinion that only if we had been able to factor and accommodate these two ingredients into our governing system like in Sweden, there wouldn't have been reason for the ear itching call for  the  breakup of  Nigeria as we are witnessing at the moment.” the OPU initiator opined.

Guest lecturer at the event, Saad Muhialdeen, delivered a paper on Leadership and mentoring with which he registered that leadership is not only about being the head but also about showing direction and positive game changers.

He praised the Yorubas for being the most focal, conscious and well exposed race in Africa. He enumerated the shinning lights of the black community in Europe as being traced to Nigeria and Yoruba in particular. He praised OPU for its effort towards the preservation of their culture and tradition.

Celebrated media practitioner and Publisher of Metronewsng online, Chief Femi Davies who was part of the event also spoke on the use of social media for the branding of OPU and individuals.

The summit attracted delegates from 10 Europe Chapters, and various Nigeria Union Associations in Europe and was anchored by popular Nollywood star, who is the global Ambassador for OPU, Yomi Fash Lanso.

Neymar admitted that he chose to leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain against the advice of his father on Friday, just before arriving in the French capital.
“A sportsman needs challenges. And for the second time in my life, I am going against the advice of my Dad,” the Brazilian wrote in a long post in Spanish on his Instagram account on Thursday night.
“Dad, I understand and respect your opinion, but my decision is taken, I ask that you support me as you always have done,” he added.

Ambode seeks NERC’s approval for power generation

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Friday led a delegation from the state to the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Abuja, to get approval for generation of 3,000Megawatt of electricity in the state.
The governor said the problem of power generation can no longer be left to the Federal Government alone.
He also noted that the aspiration to create a secure and prosperous nation that is globally competitive would be difficult to achieve without stable power supply.
He said: “While the Federal Government continues in its efforts to resolve the power crisis, it has become clear that the problems in the energy sector can no longer be left to the federal government alone to solve.

“Upon my assumption of office, I made power generation one of my cardinal programmes in Lagos State. Within the first few months in office, our government initiated the Light-Up Lagos Programme as a platform to drive sustainable intervention in street lighting, rural electrification and embedded power.
“Embedded power was designed as our flagship programme for direct intervention in the power value chain towards achieving a 24-hour power for Lagos.
“Lagos State has always demonstrated its capacity and willingness to play a leading role in resolving the power sector challenges in the state, subject to the limit of the federal authority allowed regulations.
“Having succeeded in powering government facilities, the next level of intervention for our government is to collaborate with other stakeholders in the power sector to design and implement a roadmap for uninterrupted power supply to homes and businesses in Lagos State.”
According to him, the draft of the Lagos State Embedded Power Bill was finalised in May 2017 and submitted to the NERC for clearance before same can be forwarded to the State House of Assembly.
The governor added: “The stakeholders’ meeting holding today (Friday) is a continuation of the ongoing engagement between NERC and the Lagos State Government on the Lagos State Embedded Power Programme.
“We are convinced that the offer by our government to deploy the state’s balance sheet in support of power generation, transmission, distribution, gas supply, metering, collection and enforcement in Lagos State will significantly relieve the national grid and free more energy for distribution to other parts of Nigeria.
“The proposed power programme will generate up to 3,000MW of power through accelerated deployment of various power plants in strategic locations across the state by private sector power providers within three to six years.”
The state government, he said, would issue guarantees in support of the Power Purchase Agreements that would be signed between the distribution companies and the private sector embedded power providers to enhance bankability of the projects.

‘I still can’t believe Fela is gone’

Seun Kuti, a scion of the late Afrobeat sage, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, yesterday said that he still finds it hard coming to terms with his father’s passing. According to him, what started as a rumour turned out real, leaving him quite traumatized.
Recounting the incident as he remembers on his Facebook page, the singer, who took over his father’s Egypt 80 band wrote; “the week preceding this one 20 years ago was quite traumatizing as rumors of Fela’s death had spread.
“It was so widespread that Fela’s very good friend Michele Avantario #rip flew in from Italy to mourn. He arrived in the morning of this exact day. He stood at the top of our street, too shaken to approach the house. I stumbled upon him while going to see my friend, Arthur. Michele what are you doing here crying? He said Fela is dead! I said no; stop crying it’s just a rumor. He pulled himself together and we went to KK (Kalakuta).
“He said he bought me the new Play station on his way. I was beyond elated. We chilled at KK. I went back to his hotel; we discussed a bit till it was about 8, got my PS and headed back home.”

At that moment, Seun said, he was the happiest man in the whole world.
“As I approached KK I saw a huge crowd outside, my elder brother’s friend Siasia was outside. I asked him what was happening and he said Seun Just go inside. Everyone was crying. ‘FELA DON DIE, FELA DON DIE’ couldn’t believe it. #20years later, I still can’t believe it. YEAR 20 A F E (After Fela Era) PS: Happy post humous birthday Dr Beko Ransome Kuti,” he added.
Fela’s demise was announced a day later, on August 3, 1997 by his elder brother, Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, a prominent AIDS activist and former Minister of Health.
