Ikorodu Oga Festival Begins

 

The most celebrated festival in Ikorodu land, which attracts millions of people annually, Ikorodu Oga has been confirmed to commence between tommorrow, Sunday, Novemeber 12 and 19 in the sprawling town of Ikorodu. According to the statement available to High Society during the week, the much awaited festival will kick off with Woro Carnival, follow with Oga Social night, an important aspect of  the week long celebration geared towards raising of fund will come up on Sunday November 13. There are other activities lined up for the week such as free medical check up, musical/drama fiesta, networking and re-union day before grand finale which hold on Saturday 19 at the Ayangbure Palace Pavilion, Ikorodu, will climax the week long celebration. Society buffs, top royal fathers, Lagos State Government and eminent Nigerians are expected to grace the annual festival. The Chairman of the festival,Otunba Adekunle Oyebola while addressing the news men during the week confirmed that this year edition will be a grand one because this year marks the 25th year Silver Jubilee of the festival.  "We have concluded arrangement to celebrate this year festival to high heavens because the positive socio cultural and economic achievements of the past have encouraged us to keep the flag flying of Ikorodu-Oga flying in line with the collective aspiration of the people of Ikorodu and its environs. The festival was founded in 1992 under leadership of Asiwaju B. O Benson, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. He was instrumental for the sucess of the maiden edition celebration which has made the staging of the subsquent festival not only possible, but successful and encouraging.

Alleged N2.1b debt: Skye Bank takes over Obat Oil’s depot

The Federal High Court in Lagos has directed Skye Bank Plc to take over Obat Oil and Petroleum Limited’s depot over an alleged N2.1billion debt.
Justice Jude Dagat issued an order directing the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, the Lagos Commissioner of Police as well as the court’s Deputy Sheriff to assist in the enforcement of the order.
Obat Oil and Petroleum’s depot at H.I.M. Oba (Dr.) F.E.O. Akinruntan Close, Beachland Estate, Apapa, Lagos, was sealed up yesterday pending liquidation of the debt.
The order followed an Originating Motion by Skye Bank seeking the enforcement of an arbitral award dated August 7, 2015.
Skye Bank had sought to recover a loan debt N2, 142,462,572.26 owed it by Obat Oil and Petroleum. The lo
The bank further sought to recover 15 per cent interest on the amount from April 2014 till the liquidation of the debt.
The case was taken before an arbitrator, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), during which Obat Oil and Dr. Akinruntan appealed for concessions and waivers on the amount of accrued interest, fees and commissions.
After the arbitration, the Arbitrator held that it would be fair and equitable to award N1, 406,944,352.76 to the claimant, which represents the amount the respondents admitted as being the outstanding balance as at March 31. Aare Babalola also awarded 10 per cent interest annually on the N1.4billion from the April 1l, 2014, till final liquidation of the amount.
The bank, however, alleged that Obat Oil and Dr Akinruntan failed to comply with the Arbitration Award. It applied to the court to order the award’s enforcement.
Granting the application, Justice Dagat made an order granting Skye Bank leave to enforce the Arbitration Award against the respondents.
In compliance with the order, Skye Bank Friday proceeded to enforce the Arbitration Award against Obat Oil and Petroleum and Oba Akinruntan.

Wole Soyinka will go to jail over Trump's victory-Kayode Ajulo

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka prior to the just concluded American presidential election had made the news when he vowed to tear up his Green Card if the Republican candidate, Donald Trump wins the presidential election and all eyes have been on him to make real his vow since Trump has come out victorious in the election.  

 While Soyinka’s yet to be fulfilled vow continued to generate talks, the former FRSC boss has dropped another controversial statement promising to fulfill his vow on January 20, 2017, the day Donald will be sworn in as the 45th American president. 

Meanwhile, founder of Kayode Ajulo & CO. Castle of Law who doubles as the founder of Egalitarian Mission Africa, Dr. Kayode Ajulo has expressed his disappointment in the elder statesman over what he called unguarded statement from him as he also warned of jail term if Soyinka goes ahead to fulfill his vow of tearing up his Green Card. Ajulo said Soyinka would have committed an offense that is punishable under the law if he tears up the card. 

On the hand, former national secretary of Labor party, Ajulo revealed he was disappointed and unfortunate a man of Soyinka’s stature and repute could be so carried away to make reckless statements that could take negative effect on many who are looking up to him as a role model.

‘I don’t know what prompted Professor Soyinka to he was going to tear his Green Card but in case he does not know the implication, I think we should let him know he will be liable to jail term if he does so because tearing the card will amount to felony’. 

All he or any other person needs to do if he feels he does not need the card anymore for whatever reason is to go the consular office of the country and drop it’. continuing, ‘ it’s very unfortunate and condemnable that somebody of Professor Wole Soyinka’s personality will be careless in what he say to the public knowing fully well that he’s opinion leader and a role model in the society. If he says he was going to tear his Green Card because a person of not his choice wins an election, some people out there might feel the best thing to do when they have trouble in their marriage is to tear apart their marriage certificate. I think he should know the kind of things to say with the kind of personality he has.

Oil Baron, Julius Rone Leaks News Of $6M Theft From NNPC Director, Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue’s Home

   
Finally the cloak has been lifted off the mastermind of Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue, NNPC Managing Director’s travails. And the culprit is none other than Julius Rone, CEO, UTM Group. Recently, a scandalous news rent the air revealing details about how the NNPC director’s cook absconded with cash and jewelry worth $6million.
It was gathered that the man, identified as Gabel Segbedji, a national of Benin Republic, took off with the loot in a Toyota Camry car which also belonged to her boss, last Wednesday.

Although reportedly devastated by the development, Esther did not report the burglary to the police, in the hope of avoiding scandalous attention and sensationalisation of the incident. This is because she is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
But unknown to Esther, the leak about the shameful incident would come from one of her highly trusted friends, Julius Rone. Rone allegedly revealed the theft to the press in premeditated bid to punish Esther. The CEO of UTM Group is reportedly angry with Esther because she refused to give him lucrative oil contracts and grant him deals that negates the principles of fairness and due process.
Thus while Esther battled to keep news of her theft under wraps, Julius, her trusted friend and confidant snuck behind her back make it public knowledge. This is not the first time that Julius Rone would be stabbing Esther in the back. It would be recalled that the UTM boss made Esther’s life a living hell back when she was a big gun in the Petroleum Products Pricing and Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the NNPC; because she refused to approve certain money-guzzling and unjustifiable brought to her table.
This infuriated the oil magnate and according to highly informed sources, he swore to ‘show’ the former PPMC boss the extent of his might. Rone subsequently put together a shady, pressure group and he empowered the group to launch a smear campaign against Esther.
The group petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accusing the former PPMC boss of corruption thus prompting the anti-graft agency to launch an inquest into the administration of the ex-PPMC boss.
Esther Nnamdi Ogbue was the Managing Director of the cash-spinning Petroleum Products and Marketing Company (PPMC) before she was moved to Products Retail by then GMD of NNPC, Ibe Kachikwu, in 2015.
Her fugitive chef, Segbedji, was allegedly recommended to her for employment by a certain close friend of hers, Toke Benson. While masterminding the leak, Julius Rone allegedly insinuated that the NNPC chief obtained the mountain of cash from kickbacks she received from oil marketers

                            Following the success of previous editions of Africa Meets Reggae music fiesta, the organizers has perfected all arrangements to have a better outing with this year edition. UBA Mentors Students in Oyo To Commemorate World Savings Day.

                         

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc is promoting financial literacy among young school children in Nigeria.  To this end the bank’s Executive Director, Lagos and West, Mr. Ayoku Liadi was at the Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo to mentor and teach the students on the benefits of inculcating financial discipline. 

 

“The Future belongs to children who realise early in life the need to save for tomorrow” said  Ayoku Liadi while mentoring students of the school in commemoration of World Savings Day, an  initiative of the  Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

 

He took the students through the numerous benefits of savings, especially from a young age, harping on the need to be financially responsible.  “To develop a savings culture, one needs to be financially responsible and prudent in management of resources

et realistic timelines for saving and resist the temptation to spend frivolously” he advised the students.

UBA Foundation has been in the vanguard of promoting reading culture among secondary school children. In doing this it provides literature books to the students at no cost to them, regularly gets executive management staff of UBA to go to schools to read with the students and mentor them on the benefits of reading. In furtherance of this initiative , Mr. Ayoku on behalf of UBA Foundation donated textbooks and other educational gifts to the students  of the school, while encouraging them to participate in the on-going UBA Foundation National Essay Competition for Senior Secondary Schools.
