10-Year-old Emmanuella Wins One Million Naira For Mum In Peak ‘Reach for Millions’ Promo

                           
Somewhere in Jos, North Central part of Nigeria, a ten-year-old girl is said to have changed the fortune of the family through peak ‘Reach for Millions’ promo.

To 10-year-old Emmanuella, it was like a normal game, but with hope of getting something out of it. Not really for herself, but her dear mother.

When she saw the advert of the 60th anniversary Peak ‘Reach for Millions’ promo on television, her attention was focused on every tin of peak milk purchased by her mum.

Like an addicted habit, she kept sending codes on the tins as directed in the advert. She went ahead to inform her mother who is an immigration officer about the promo, but the mum never took her serious because she does not believe in promos.

Emmanuella’s mother, Mrs. Franca Chire told reporters at the prize presentation ceremony that she never believed in promos hinging her reasons on lack of trust on past promos she has come across.

"Actually, I never believed in promos, when my daughter told me about Peak ‘reach for millions promo, I thought it was one of those fake promos where only families of organizers are always the winners.
"So, when my ten-year-old daughter, Emmanuella Chire told me that there is a promo concerning peak milk going on, I waved it aside." Mrs. Chire stated.


In defiance to her mother’s stance on promos, little Emmanuella who is a JSS 1 student would not relent; she kept sending codes until she got a response. A response that is about to bring fortunes to the family, she was informed through a text message that she has just won a million naira in the Peak ‘Reach for Million’ promo!

As expected of a little girl, she ran to her mother to show her what she’s got on her phone. Mrs. Chire claimed she did not believe what she saw, and had to read and read again.
"So, when I collected the phone from her and read the message, I read it again and again and still couldn’t figure what’s in the content. I gave the phone back to her and asked her to go and wait for me till I finish what I was doing.


" So, when I finished what I was I doing, I read the message again and it was clearer when I started seeing ‘you have just won 1 million naira in the peak 60^{th anniversary ‘Reach for Millions’ promo. Keep your pack to claim your prize…’ and so on. I started thinking how do I tell my girl this thing is real in spite of my discouragement and all that. So my daughter was right all the while, peak milk promo is real, my daughter has won 1 million naira in the peak promo, one amazing million naira!" She narrated joyfully.}

Doubting Mrs. Chire and her ‘golden’ daughter, Emmanuella were full of Joy at the cheque presentation
ceremony. She narrated how she discouraged little Emmanuella and even told her ‘’she was wasting her time and credits.’’

"When my ten-year-old daughter told me that there is a promo concerning peak milk going on, I waved it aside.
"But she would not let me rest; she kept on sending codes on every tin of peak milk we bought. In fact, I once told her she was wasting her time and credits but she would not listen.


"However, we decided to buy more peak milk, of course we’ve been taking peak milk for years even before she was born. So, I was not buying the brand because of the promo, we bought it for usual consumption." Mrs. Chire narrated.

After the cheque presentation, the joyful immigration officer said "it was all like a dream, so my daughter is now a millionaire through peak amazing million-naira promo.

The Jos based immigration officer however disclosed how what she described as ‘a rare gift’ will be invested in her little girl’s future.

"Well the money will definitely have positive impact in our lives, there will be a huge relieve in the area of her education and other sundries.

"Of course our plans with the money are obvious as her education will definitely be on top of our priority and again we will get at least a plot of land and do some other little investments as well." She explained.
Mrs. Chire however thanked FrieslandCampina WAMCO, makers of Peak for the laudable promo she claimed she never believed in.


In her words, "my 10-year-old daughter has won a million naira through Peak milk promo, we give glory to God for this marvelous gift from peak and of course we thank the entire peak family for this rare reward for patronage, it is good to be a consumer of peak milk, well done peak milk." An Avoidable crisis is currently brewing in Aso Rock, the nation’s seat of power, and the source of the palaver is the political scheming and ambition of the Women Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sharon Ikeazor which is likely to undermine the status of the Wife of the president, Hajia Aisha Buhari.

Meanwhile, we were informed that in Sharon Ikeazor’s Anambra State, there are growing sentiments against her as she is being described as an opportunist who does not have enough clout among women in her State.

"Sharon is not know in her constituency, and some women are planning to protest if she is given the ministerial slot of women affairs," another source volunteered.

Saraki unviels ministerial list + full list

                      
The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday unveiled the list of ministerial nominees sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday last week.
The names of the nominees were sent after the Senate had closed the day’s business and adjourned till Tuesday (today).
Thursday was the nation’s independence anniversary and was thus observed as a public holiday.
The list was not different from what had been published in a large section of the media.
Top on the list are former Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.
Also on the list is the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; a lawyer and chieftain of the APC in Oyo State, Adebayo Shittu; and a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Audu Ogbe.

Aluu 4: Three Years After, No Justice

                     
It is now three years since the four boys from the University of Port Harcourt were lynched in Aluu, a community in Rivers state known for violence.

The torture was highly heartrending and barbaric. From being beaten up with batten to being burned alive with petrol and tyre, the boys were given slow and painful death sentence.

If they had envisaged the death trap, Lloyd, Chidiaka and Tekena wouldn’t have joined Ugo to help him retrieve his cash from a debtor. The four handsome promising dudes were in cold-blood murdered in broad-day-light.


Why the four shouldn’t have been killed
This is a country where people die by jungle justice and the killers do not get questioned in the long run.

Then one would imagine how these killers sleep with their eyes closed comfortably inside their houses with the thought of who to kill next. One would also imagine the kind of children they would unleash into the world; their offspring may not be different from their trait.

The problem is not whether the four were guilty of the accusation or not, it is whether whatever they allegedly stole was worth the bright future of the four. The two guys who clearly killed Cynthia Osokogu having lured her through Facebook were not beaten, not to talk of being killed.

For Cynthia’s case, the court processes have been on. On July 22 this year, Justice Olabisi Akinlade of a Lagos high court sitting at Igbosere at a point became furious and had lambasted the counsel to one of the accused killers of Cynthia for his delay tactics. Then the judge threatened to revoke the bail granted the defendant, Nonso Ezik.

But does the Rivers state government or the presiding judge care about the delay in the Aluu 4 case? A popular parlance says, justice delayed is justice denied.

Come to think of it, if really those boys stole anything, the best would have been to hand them over to the law. The most painful part is that a sister to one of them was there when her brother was tortured and finally burned alive.

There were all manner of allegations, some said they were thieves, others said they were cultists and all what not. They died not knowing that they were going to die; they died, not saying goodbye, they all died with talents and dreams. Who will talk for them? Even though anyone gets to talk for them, they are dead and gone.


The negligence of the Nigerian police force
It’s a shame that this happened for hours in broad-day-light without the police showing up. It was reported that there was a police officer at the incident but was unwilling to stop the act. Is a community bigger than the law? It is better to risk saving a guilty person than to condemn an innocent one.

The Nigerian police can never be known for saving a fly, instead they would be the ones to kill or engineer the killings of others. Just on Wednesday, September 16, a police corporal attached to the Isheri-Oshun division in Lagos fired a shot at a moving tricycle along Isheri road killing the wife of the operator. What happened thereafter? Such case would automatically die simply because it involves a man in uniform.

It is this nonchalance for human life that made the police ignore the mob action that led to the abrupt death of the four young undergraduates.

Charles de Montesquieu, a French lawyer and political philosopher once said that there is no crueler tyranny than that which is perpetuated under the shield of law and in the name of justice. Under the very eye of a Nigerian police officer, jungle justice was pronounced.


The comatose justice system
Since the incident, many people have advocated the prompt trial of those behind the heinous act. While some have continued to advocate for death sentence, others urge life imprisonment with hard labour. But the justice system is lackadaisical on matters like this.

It had once been predicted that the matter would end becoming a forgotten one as the government of Nigeria would not do anything about it. Truly, three years down the lane, no resolution.

In 2014, the executive director of the Society for the Promotion of Better Nigeria, Livingston Wechie, said that it is a disturbing fact that the Aluu 4 incident is still generating losses to the affected families and the society in general particularly since justice is still not in sight.

He said that there is nothing that can best describe it as ritual killing without any justification.

One of the suspects, Ikechukwu Louis Amadi, had last year admitted in court that he was involved in the incident but only used a stick to hit the deceased.

Other suspect are Lawal Segun, Abang Cyril, ex-Sergeant Lucky Orji, David Chinasa Ogbada, Abiodu Yusuf, Joshua Ekpe and John Ayuwa,

Recently on a Thursday, June 11 this year, the hearing of the case was stalled owing to the fact that the accused persons were not present in the court despite their counsels being present at the resumed hearing from its one year closure.

One question for everyone is whether there can ever be justice for the Aluu 4 when the courts are perpetually shut in Rivers state.


Imbibing the spirit of empathy
It can now be understood, as Benjamin Franklin would say, that justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are. One may not know how hard it has been for the families to cope after losing their first sons until such nefarious act comes knocking at one’s door. Imagine it was you, your brother or cousin or friend, what would you have done?

In this country, your safety is in your own hands. The uniformed men who are supposed to be the ones protecting lives and properties of the citizenry are the ones who perpetrate told and untold crimes against innocent people on daily basis.

Maturity and the spirit of peace had led to the reason why there was no communal hostility which may have culminated from the gruesomeness of the cruelty.

The fact remains that when all these particles of injustices are not flushed out, the younger generation is watching… They may take it up someday if nothing is done about it.

Two of the lynched four were upcoming rappers and had released a song with the caption: "Ain’t no love in the heart of the city". Truly, there was no love in the heart of the community where they were burned alive.

The truth is, there may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. The dead cannot cry for justice, it’s the duty of the living to do so for them because injustice anywhere in the country is tantamount to injustice everywhere the world over.

May they all rest in perfect peace.

Tension as Allison-Madueke plans to reveal all corrupt Nigerians in UK court

                      
There is a lot of tension among Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s ministers and allies as former Petroleum minister, Dieziani Allison-Madueke heads to a UK court to face corruption trials on Monday

Sources has revealed that the OPEC president has cut off contact with all Nigerians since her arrest and bail in London

The source said "Those in Jonathan’s camp were shocked by Diezani’s arrest. They have been desperately trying to get in touch with the ex-Minister since yesterday without success.

"As at today (yesterday), they are worried that Diezani has cut off contact with everyone, creating fears that she might spill the beans.

"The fear in Jonathan’s camp is that Diezani might be given the James Ibori treatment. They are suspecting that she might be tried and convicted in the UK."

"None of us has been able to reach out to Diezani because all her lines are off. She has also not called to share her travails with anybody."

It is the tradition of foreign courts to lighten the sentences of suspects if they cooperate with investigations and it seems like Mrs Allison-Madueke is looking to cut such a deal with the authorities

The Alllegations Against Alison-Madueke

                        
Mrs. Alison-Madueke has stayed away from Nigeria since President Buhari was sworn-in. She was first appointed into the federal cabinet in 2007. A former director at Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, she was appointed Minister of Transport by late President Umaru Yar’adua. In December 2008, she was redeployed to the Mines and Steel Development ministry.

After former Vice President Goodluck Jonathan became acting president, Alison-Madueke was appointed Nigeria’s first female petroleum minister in February 2010, a position she held till May 29, 2015 when Mr. Jonathan left office. Alison-Madueke’s tenure as petroleum minister turned out one of Nigeria’s most controversial, amid unending allegations of corruption.

Under her watch, dubious oil marketers stole trillions of naira of oil subsidy money. She retained her position after the House of Representatives investigated the scandal and indicted the minister. Probes by independent audit firms, including the KPMG and Pricewaterahousecoopers, confirmed billions of dollars of oil money were missing, the most notable being $20 billion in 2014.


Other corruption allegations
Long before her stint in the oil and gas sector, Alison-Madueke was investigated by the Nigerian Senate on allegation she paid N30.9 billion to contractors while she held office as transport minister. In 2009, the Senate also indicted Mrs. Alison-Madueke and recommended her for prosecution for allegedly transferring N1.2 billion into a private account of a toll company without due process. The former minister consistently denied any wrongdoing.

In June, after leaving office, she rejected all allegations of embezzlement, saying she never stole from Nigeria. In March 2014, the House of Representatives mandated its Committee on Public Accounts to investigate the alleged squandering of N10 billion over a two-year period on the arbitrary charter and maintenance of a Challenger 850 aircraft for unofficial use by Alison-Madueke.

Such act was said to contravene the "Fiscal Responsibility Act and all other laws on fiscal discipline" Acting on what it termed reliable evidence, the House said it learnt that Alison-Madueke had allegedly sunk at least N3.120 billion into the maintenance of a private jet dedicated to the service of herself and her family.

A breakdown of the money, showed that the sum of 500,000 Euros (N130 million) was spent every month on the maintenance of the airplane, which amounted to N3.120 billion for the two years in question.
